A SUPPLY teacher has been fined £200 after being found guilty of assaulting a 12-year-old pupil.
Howard Oldham (54), of Tintern Avenue, Whitefield, was also ordered to pay compensation of £100 following a trial at Bury Magistrates Court.
He had denied a charge of common assault. An appeal was being considered.
It had been alleged that Oldham had pushed the pupil, who cannot be named for legal reasons, through a door, causing the child to fall but without sustaining a major injury.
Following the trial, Bury Council's education department released a statement saying: "Mr Oldham was employed in one of our schools as a supply teacher from an agency.
"As soon as we became aware of the situation, we had an internal investigation to ensure that he wasn't employed in another school within Bury.
"Following the outcome of the police inquiry and the court case, the information has now been passed on to the Department for Education and Skills for them to consider."
