RADCLIFFE Athletic Club's youngsters have had a busy couple of weeks.

A group competed in the Joan Rhodes One Mile Fun Run, at Littleborough on Tuesday March 16.

A flat-out dash for the finish was won by Paul Freary in 4 minutes 14 seconds, with quite a few other local runners posting good times.

Gary Wilson was Radcliffe's first finisher (41st, 5.56), chased home by Dawn Warriner in (5.09), and she is not yet 15!

A good effort from Rebecca Howard saw her post a time of 6.33, enough to hold off brother Jim's 6.44. Two more under 15's, Thomas Hughes, (61st in 6.49) and Christopher Heathcote (7.02), managed to hold off the challenge of Amy Crompton, a couple of seconds further back.

Sam Morris posted a time of 7.45, seven seconds ahead of Katie Heathcote, an under 9, who was just two seconds in front of over 60 Tom West. While Georgia Holt finished 87th (8.23).

Next came under 13s Anna Hughes, (10.46); Page Wiggins (under 9, 11.05); Dave Wilson (under 13, 11.22); and Coach Arthur Warren (over 50), shepherding his charges home in 11.49.

James Jackson, shown as an under 9 in the results, but is actually just five years old, set himself a one-mile time of 16.06, something he will surely beat before he gets much bigger.

A few seconds behind was his uncle, Mark Jackson, rounding off a splendid Radcliffe turn-out for this special run.

John Agg took a group of youngsters over to the Half-Tour of Pendle last weekend.

To show the youngsters what fell-running is all about, he completed the nine mile run, with its 2,250 feet of climb, in 1 hour 39 minutes.

Jordan Beard and Jim Howard did the under 13 race, a 2K with 120 metres of climb, finishing in 10.26 (8th) and 12.20 (21st) respectively.

The under 15 race saw Dawn Warriner manage 29th in 13.30 to round off another good effort from Radcliffe's juniors.

Mike Howard is getting himself ready for a crack at the 'Bob Graham Round'.

This involves running 74 miles, crossing 42 Lakeland peaks, with a total ascent of 28,500 feet - all to be done in 24 hours.

With this in mind, Mike completed the Edale Skyline last weekend, 21 miles of hills and rough moorland, completed in three and a half hours.

That was on the back of doing the 30 mile 'Howarth Hobble' in just over four hours the weekend before.

The man means business, and looks set to have a meaningful crack at the 'Bob Graham Round' in the coming weeks.
