I WANT to thank our MP, Mr David Chaytor, for writing to local health trusts, asking them to review their Living Will policies.
A Living Will is a legally-binding document, which you can use to set out how you wish to be treated by medical staff if you become ill or have an accident and cannot communicate your wishes. If you don't have a Living Will, your family will not have any legal right to act on your behalf.
I recently chose a Living Will but then became concerned that local Trusts might not have Living Will policies. I made a Living Will because I want the peace of mind of knowing that medical staff will respect my medical wishes if I cannot speak for myself. I think it is vitally important local Trusts have transparent guidelines in place to ensure this will happen.
JUDITH A. NORRIS (Mrs)
