Leigh Centurions 50 Featherstone Rovers 12 by Mike Hulme: LEIGH Centurions got their National League One campaign back on track with a nine-try demolition of Featherstone.

It was a fitting way for popular prop Dave Bradbury to end his playing days; a landslide win and then a standing ovation as he left the action for the final time with five minutes remaining. After their opening day defeat at Whitehaven, a Centurions' victory was vital. But they way they opened gave little indication of how easy it would become.

Leigh, without three key men - Rowley, Knott and Larder - opened sluggishly and it took the first quarter for them to find their feet.

By that time they had wiped out Carl Briggs' early penalty with a Tommy Martyn try but it was only when Neil Turley outjumped opposite number Nathan Batty to set up Simon Knox for the first of his two tries, that Leigh's form began to return.

From the re-start Leigh scored again. Dave McConnell and John Duffy made all the running for Andrew Isherwood to get over for a third Leigh try.

Rovers pulled a try back through Jamie Stokes but Leigh made sure they ended the half well clear when Steve Maden made all the running for Knox's second try.

An error by Batty at the start of the second half gave Leigh the platform to strike again; Chris Percival racing through from another classic Martyn pass.

Rovers hit back through Richard Newlove but a purple patch of four tries in 11 minutes cemented Leigh's win.

Maden's 30 metre dash set up the position for Radney Bowker to get over before the winger himself got a try his efforts deserved. A massive 40/20 kick from Martyn gave Bowker the chance to race through for his second, before Turley's and Dave Alstead combined to send Maden away again.

Turley finished with 14 points with seven goals from nine shots.
