POPULAR prop Dave Bradbury put on Leigh's famous cherry and white jersey for the last time on Sunday, April 18.

Bradbury has decided to bring the curtain down on his long career and he made his farewell appearance against Featherstone at Hilton Park.

Now 32, Bradbury has been looking at a career outside rugby league and has decided to join the Prison Service.

Atherton-based Bradbury has spent most of his career in Super League with Oldham, Salford and Huddersfield before joining his hometown club, Leigh, three years ago.

He says: "I have had a tremendous rugby career, but I am now reaching the age when I have to think about my long term future away from rugby.

"I was going to retire at the end of the season, but the opportunity to start a fresh with the Prison Service was something I had to take. It has been very difficult to leave rugby, especially with the new team we have at Leigh, but for now I am looking forward to Sunday's game, and hopefully that will end with a win.

"I would just like to thank all the fans who over the years have supported me, and hopefully I can repay some of that back on Sunday."

Derek Beaumont, Centurions Executive Director added: "We are very sad to lose a player of David's stature.

"He has been a brilliant asset for the club, both on and off the field since he signed in 2001. It is with regret we see him leave, but we will wish him well in his new career, and look back on some good memories. I would like all the fans to turn up on Sunday and give him a big send off."
