NOMINATION papers for anyone wanting to stand in the June local elections are now available from Burnley Town Hall.

There will be 15 seats on Burnley Council up for grabs on Thursday, June 10.

Gillian Taylor, the council's returning officer, said: "The election process officially starts on Friday, April 30, when the Notice of Election is published.

"Prospective candidates have until 4pm on Tuesday, May 11 to submit their nomination papers."

In addition to the elections in the 15 borough council wards, there are also elections for the parishes of Ightenhill and Worsthorne with Hurstwood.

The local elections are being held on the same day as the European Parliamentary election, and both will be postal ballots, which means that everyone on the 2004 Register of Electors will automatically receive their ballot papers through the post to complete and return. The ballot packs will be delivered to electors by the end of May 2004.

This will include a ballot paper for the European election and one for the local elections, plus a parish one where applicable, together with one declaration of identity for all elections.

If you will not be at your registered address when the ballot papers are sent out you can apply to have them sent somewhere else. To do this you have to complete a form, available from the elections office at the council.
