RESIDENTS of West Street have been told by Biffa that they have to leave their rubbish at the front of their houses.

This means not only having to carry it through their houses but also that the bags are getting caught by motorists and being split.

Members of the council will speak to a presentative from Biffa.

Coun Kathleen Hudson complained about the amount of rubbish accumulating on the Hargrove Allotments. She will speak to allotments manager Peter Guy about the problem and seek a solution.

Coun Maureen Whittaker is concerned about little on the approach to the Gawthorpe estate.

The Mayor of Padiham Bob Clark has said litter in the area does not help its ambition to be a top market town. He has suggested that if each one of the town's 12,000 residents picked up one piece of litter it would make an incredible impact. He would like to see this happen for Padiham Day on April 30.

Coun Mark Jinkinson, Mayor elect, has suggested the Town Council look at initiatives to use recycling initiatives as a way of raising funds.

A littler-pick has been arranged to take place on Saturday around the Pendle Street area. Residents are asked meet at Pendle Street Baptist Church at 10am.

THE Mayor and Mayoress of Padiham, Councillor Bob Clark and Mrs Hazel Rushton, attended the Civic Ball at Whitworth hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress of Whitworth, Councillor Alan Neal and Mrs Janet Neal.

HAPTON Parish Council held their monthly meetings at Hapton village school on Tuesday.

Members were pleased to be informed of a 'stay of execution' on the closure of the toilets, but this is only temporary. The Parish Council had no time to consider the closure because of the short notice given by Burnley Borough Council.

Coun Webbe has delivered a leaflet to almost every house in Hapton outlining the dangers of allowing dog faeces to remain on public land.

The council considered also three planning applications.

A proposed two-storey extension at College Close was passed with the provision that neighbours would not be affected. A proposed conservatory at Winchester Road was passed with the same provision.

An application to build a 7ft high fence around an industrial unit at Network 65 was given the go-ahead. The councillors were pleased that it was to be painted green and have trees planted to the front of it.

HAPTON residents are reminded that Burnley Borough Council offers an excellent large rubbish collection service. A phone call to Burnley 425011, and a description of the rubbish to be collected is all that is required.
