A WOMAN whose life has been touched by cancer is on track to raise cash in the Preston Race for Life next month.

Janet Dalton, of Applefields, Leyland, will be taking part in the 5km fundraising effort for Cancer Research UK at Preston Sports Arena, Tom Benson Way, Cottom, on Sunday, May 23.

The 47-year-old's mother died of cancer several years ago and after taking part in charity walks and runs she is hoping to raise plenty of cash at the event, supported by the Citizen.

Money raised from run will be used to fund research into cancers that affect women.

Mrs Dalton is now hoping friends and family will dig deep as well as colleagues at Progress Housing, King Street, Leyland, where she works in personnel.

She said: "My mum died of cancer after having three operations for three different types of cancer. That's why I decided to get involved in the race.

"I want to raise as much as possible. They do say that people should raise at least £50 but I want to raise double that."

She is being supported by husband John and her two children and three step-children.

Although the keen badminton player has no plans to make it round the track in Olympic time she is determined to stick it out until the end, with former school friend Janet Park.

The women-only event, sponsored by Tesco, is hoping for 1,600 women to take part of any age and fitness level, with a view to raising £95,000.
