From the Guide files of Friday, May 18, 1979: ST MARGARET'S Brownies celebrated their 40th anniversary. A buffet tea, entertainment and a special cake were arranged by the then assistant leader, Mrs Joan Grayshon.

PRESTWICH girl Marilyn McKeever (21) came out top of the country in the Law Society's qualifying exams, with 1st class honours and six distinctions. Marilyn was the daughter of Ivor and Anita Baker of Westholme Road, Prestwich.

EIGHT parishioners of Stand All Saints Church were preparing to walk the Pennine Way to raise money for the church restoration fund. Supporters were asked to purchase draw tickets which enabled them to predict how long the walk would take with prizes given for the nearest estimate.

WHITEFIELD Youth Club came second in an It's A Knockout competition organised by Greater Manchester Youth Association. The contest was held at the Abraham Moss Centre and included 11 clubs. Flixton came first.

LISA Manzano (12) of Lilyhill Street, Whitefield, was crowned Rose Queen at Stand Unitarian Church. She took the place of retiring Rose Queen Helen Johnson.
