exact implications.

After witnessing the subsequent reaction of Graeme Souness both after the goal and at the end of the game, one can bet that he treated it more than just an equaliser in a meaningless end of season fixture.

That goal, along with the Spurs and Portsmouth results, may well have helped to trim his shopping list for the summer due to our fall from 13th to 15th place. A fall which has cost the club somewhere in the region of £1 million and possibly at least one summer transfer target.

With this in mind, the cursory end of season wave and stomp down the tunnel was quite understandable. Such is the market that Blackburn Rovers are now operating in, that goal could shape who comes in and possibly even more importantly who has to leave to fund summer signings.

So, with players certain to leave in the summer the question is who will go?

The celebrations at the end of the game on Saturday would seem to hold clues as to who, especially with the actions of two players in particular, Andy Cole and Tugay.

Tugay, as is usual, lingered on the pitch longer than the rest of the players to give his own thanks to the fans and was deservedly saluted right back. For a twenty minute stint during the second half against Birmingham the little Turk totally ran the game. He was picking passes at will and was a class apart from anyone else on the pitch. Granted, he has performed like this on too few an occasion this season but is he alone in that respect?

If the wave to the Blackburn End at the end was a wave goodbye it is a sad occasion - players with his talent are only truly appreciated when they're gone.

The case of Andy Cole would seem a little more complex.

In his own words he's enjoying his football and clearly wants to stay but I think it's fair to say that he 'enjoys' an uneasy relationship with the manager.

However, it would appear that the fans' attitude towards him has mellowed somewhat, probably borne out of his excellent work-rate in the second half of the season and the majority would want him to stay.

Again if Saturday is his farewell in a Rovers shirt it will be unfortunate. His partnership with Stead is starting to blossom and one gets the feeling they could be a real handful next season.

One person who's hardly been talked of as a candidate for leaving is Matt Jansen. Apart from a couple of cameo appearances he's certainly struggled to re-capture the form he once had and with him being one of the higher earners he could also be deemed surplus to requirements.

But hey are decisions that the manager must make and questions will be answered in the coming weeks.

Enjoy the summer.
