DWIGHT Yorke's future as a Blackburn Rovers player looks set to be decided at a special meeting today.

Rovers' chief executive, John Williams, will meet with Yorke's representatives to discuss the possibility of a severance settlement.

But the club have strenuously denied stories suggesting the former Manchester United star will receive a £650,000 golden handshake if he leaves this summer.

Yorke's future at Ewood has been the subject of intense speculation for some time.

The 32-year-old has been involved in a series of bust-ups with Rovers boss Graeme Souness during the last two seasons.

And the club have finally admitted they are ready to off-load the controversial ex-Trinidad and Tobago international if the two parties can come to a suitable arrangement.

"I think if we're honest we've felt for some time that the relationship with Dwight has probably reached a level where it's right for Dwight to move on," said Williams.

"He's made himself available and fit for selection right through to the end and, indeed, he's been on and around the fringes of the bench.

"But we have an understanding with Dwight that we would probably expect to see him move on this summer.

"That's not guaranteed because he's still our player but I'm meeting with his representatives today to resolve the situation."

As I understand it, Rovers are prepared to allow Yorke to leave on a free if he wants to move abroad this summer but they would look for a fee if he lined up a move to another Premiership rival.

Rovers are hoping the fact they are prepared to forego a fee for a player who cost them £1.5 million two years ago will be enough to appease the Yorke camp.

The striker, who still has a year left to run on his current contract, has been hankering after a move for some time.

Several clubs in America have been linked with him in the past but he may ultimately end up in Qatar, where the likes of Gabriel Batistuta and Frank Le Boeuf are currently earning a small fortune.

Rovers have yet to receive any firm enquiries but agents have indicated there would be interest in Yorke if he were to become available.

"We've had some enquiries through what I would call the agent network," added Williams.

"There's been interest reported to us via a third party but nothing firm and nothing in writing."

Yorke has scored 19 goals in 52 appearances for Rovers since signing from Manchester United two summers ago.
