HYNDBURN Against Racism welcomes the fact that no candidates from racist political parties will be standing in the local elections in Hyndburn.

We are pleased that these groups will not be able to use the elections to publicise their hateful prejudice and bigotry.

Hyndburn Against Racism is made up of a wide cross-section of the local community, including churches, faith groups, community associations, trade unions, political parties and concerned individuals.

Among its supporters are the Accrington Stanley Football Club, the Rev Ian Robertson (St John's Church, Accrington), Father David Lyon (Rector of Accrington), the Rev Michael Wedgeworth (Secretary of the Diocese of Blackburn), representatives of the Higher Antley Mosque, Hyndburn and Rossendale Trades Union Council, local union branches of AMICUS, UNISON, FBU, NAS/UWT, members of Hyndburn Borough Council and Lancashire County Council, and individual youth workers, doctors, teachers, health workers and engineers.

We will continue leafleting right up until June 10 and we urge everyone to use their vote in the European elections.

PETER BILLINGTON, Acting Secretary, Hyndburn Against Racism, East Crescent, Accrington.
