WHITEFIELD Library has been nominated for a "Simply the Best" award by the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).

Visual Impairment Librarian Anne Elton, who is based at the library in Pinfold Lane, has been invited to attend the awards ceremony in London next Tuesday (May 25).

The Bury Council facility has the largest Visual Impairment (VIP) unit in the borough and it is open to the public two days a week.

The unit has a large selection of audio books on tape and CD, audio-described videos, magnifying equipment, a transcription service, scanner with specialist software for reading documents, computers with internet access and a collection of large print books for children.

There is also a comfortable seating area for borrowers to enjoy a biscuit and a drink while they choose their books and socialise.

The library is shortlisted for the customer service category which honours companies and organisations who provide excellent customer service.

Anne Elton said: "I am quite excited about the awards and touched that we were nominated."
