DARWEN will be hoping to maintain the fine form that secured them two excellent victories last weekend when Kendal arrive for their Northern League fixture tomorrow.

Last Saturday they over-ran Leyland Motors to secure a six-wicket victory in the league then on Sunday they won by two wickets against Bolton Association side Walshaw in the Thwaites Lancashire Cricket Board Cup.

Against Leyland, despite a fine 109 from Atif Ashraf, Neil Cordingley took four for 12 and Jeff Hacking claimed two in two balls to leave them on 141 all out.

The Darwen reply was led by Stuart Grant (29) and Keith Semple as the pair added 46 for the second wicket. The pro went on to score an impressive 59 not out including seven fours as Darwen romped home with 20 overs to spare.

Walshaw decided to bat first in the Thwaites Cup and once again the Darwen bowlers were soon on top as their opponents limped to 139.

Gary Jackson was the anchor in the Darwen reply as he amassed an impressive 63 not out. He shared a solid opening stand of 45 with John Cordingley (15) This was followed by stands of 43 with Gareth Cordingley (14), 23 with Chris Lowe (11) and 19 with Jeff Hacking (5) as he ensured Darwen secured victory with two overs and two wickets to spare.

Captain Chris Lowe was delighted with the team's form. He said: "These were two very impressive team performances. What's really good to see is everyone contributing either with the bat or in the field.

"Gary Jackson did a cracking job for us and Keith was on top form."

Graeme Parkinson will return to the side for the visit of Kendal, with the game starting at 1pm.

West Indian Semple will be unavailable for Sunday, however, as pros are not eligible for the National Knock-out.
