A MAN caught in Blackburn with hundreds of pounds worth of drugs on two occasions has been sent to jail for 14 months.

Mohammed Ahmed had more than 100 grammes of cannabis, on the first date, to share with friends.

While on bail he was apprehended while transporting more than a kilo of the drug from the London area.

Ahmed, 26, from Pullman Street, Rochdale, had been committed for sentence by magistrates for two offences of possessing drugs with intent to supply and two of possession of cannabis and several ecstasy tablets.

Dennis Watson, prosecuting, said Ahmed was one of four car passengers on the first date last November. The vehicle stopped in Bolton Road, Ewood, Blackburn.

When police went over to the car there was a very strong smell of cannabis. Scales were found under the front passenger seat and a small amount of cannabis bush was found.

From a nearby garden, police recovered 46 bags containing cannabis that weighed 109 grammes in all.

Ahmed was on bail over that incident when he was a passenger in a Mazda vehicle the following month as it headed north after midnight.

The driver was spoken to about speeding. The defendant got out and threw a carrier bag away.

The bag was recovered and found to contain just over a kilo of cannabis. If sold in small quantities, the drug could have brought over £4,000 on the street.

Six mobile phones, all turned on, were found in the car. When searched at a police station, Ahmed had more than £2,400 in his possession.

Philip Andrews, defending, told the court: "The drugs on the first occasion were to be shared between four friends and himself. He was not a street dealer or wholesaler.
