ALEXANDRA were the only local team to make a significant impact on the Super League last weekend when they shared the spoils 3-3 at Preston club Frenchwood.

Although the Alex have been inconsistent so far this year, they can take heart from a well deserved draw on the tricky Frenchwood green.

Kevin Thompson returned to form with the best score of the day 21-12, while captain Brian Tomlinson retained his composure in a solid 21-15 result.

But the biggest plus this season is surely Alan Clark who in his debut year has four wins from five starts to his credit.

Again Alan underlined his ability in difficult match play circumstances and played a great game to win 21-13.

Unfortunately, the rest of the team were unable to add to the score, but if they are to feature in the title race they must remember every point is crucial to the cause.

Great Harwood got little from their visit to St Annes and in the end had to be content with a single consolation in a 5-1 defeat.

Despite a tremendous record of five consecutive wins for St Annes, this was a surprise result and a severe blow for the title hopes of Harwood.

Captain Stuart Gall was the sole success and he had to pull out all the stops to squeeze home by the narrowest of margins 21-20.

Unfortunately, no one else got near to winning although Malcolm Wensley made a brave effort before fading in the latter stages.

After a bright start to the campaign Rose; N'Bowl have simply gone off the boil completely and the latest 6-0 home defeat to Birches was a bitter disappointment.

Witton also took a hammering against top team Brownedge who on current form are unstoppable as they lead the title race by eight clear points.

To be fair, Witton did make them battle for every point and to their credit ran them close in four games.

Despite the efforts of Mark Green and Derek Smith who were edged out in a close finish, Brownedge were 3-0 up at half time.

The second half was a similar story as Brian Hoole conceded 21-18 before Roy Preston went down by the narrowest of margins 21-20.

Although the result was comprehensive, Witton can expect to do much better against lesser opposition plus the fact this was nowhere near as bad as the score suggests.

Results: Frenchwood 3 Alexandra 3; Lostock Hall 2 Farington 4; Rose N' Bowl 0 Birches 6; St Annes 5 Greeat Harwood 1; Witton 0 Brownedge 6.
