JUNIOR pupils from Bury Grammar made waves in a swimming gala for schools across the borough.

A team of boys and girls was one of 18 to compete in the event at Radcliffe Pool, attended by around 200 spectators.

Bury Grammar School emerged as overall winners of the Bury Junior Schools Swimming Gala after winning a string of individual events and a relay.

Organiser Penny Clarke said: "I was thrilled to see so many children taking part in the event, and so many schools attending. They all competed brilliantly."

Bury Grammar girls coach Pat Pearson said: "The pupils really looked forward to this event and always try their best. They swam their hearts out."

Girls from the grammar school will be heading to Pond's Forge in Sheffield next month after winning a place in the finals of the English Schools Relay Competition.
