TWO members of an ambulance crew were taken to hospital after an alleged assault on a slip-road of the M65 while attending an emergency call.

A male technician and a female paramedic were taken to Burnley General Hospital with cuts and bruises following the incident on the westbound slipway of the M65 at Junction 13 at Colne.

Another ambulance was then called to the incident, at around 7.40am yesterday, to take the injured crew members to hospital.

The crew were treating an injured man when they were allegedly attacked.

Mark Taylor, operations manager at Burnley ambulance station, said: "A Barnoldswick crew attended an emergency call and during the assessment process were assaulted. They were taken to hospital for treatment."

A 45-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of assault and driving under the influence of drink or drugs shortly after 8am and was due to be questioned by police in Burnley.
