MUM'S the word for one Leyland woman who is pulling on her trainers for the challenge of a lifetime in China.

Sally Hunter, 35, of Gower Court, off Longmeaneygate, is set for a trek along the Great Wall of China to raise money for Breast Cancer UK.

The mother-of-three will spend ten days walking part of the gigantic wall, for the charity's Trek for Life, on October 3, which spans more than 4,000 miles and crosses deserts and rugged mountains.

She plans to trek for six to eight hours a day with a group of about 30 people including best friend, Claire Mason, completing a gruelling hike up steep steps at Mutianyu.

"The toughest part for me will be having to get up each morning after a demanding walk the day before," said Sally.

"There won't be an opportunity for resting the next day and I think it will get more demanding as the days go on."

Sally's inspiration for the charity trek came from her mother, Pat Clare, 68, who battled with breast cancer about two years ago before being given the all clear.

"She just kept on going," said Sally. "She had an operation, six months of chemotherapy and one month of radiotherapy.

"She's a strong lady and has always been very positive."

But Sally said her thoughts will also be with some of the women who come into the hairdressing salon where she works.

She said: "At work I see lots of women who get their hair done because it's falling out or growing back after cancer. I'm doing it for them as well."

Now Sally is calling on people to donate cash toward her £4,000 target. "I need to raise the money before I go," she said.

"I've reached £2,000 but need help to get me there and raise money for this worthy cause."
