PRESTWICH councillor Wilf Davison left behind his mayoral car to take part in a fund-raising event.

Coun Davison led the way in a sponsored walk at Parrenthorn High School, where he is chairman of governors.

Around 400 pupils from Years 7 to 10 took part in the walk around nearby Heaton Park. They are hoping to raise more than £2,000 for school funds.

Maths teacher Joseph Keane, who organised the event, said: "In the past we have done the walk to raise money for our specialist technology status, but this time we did it to buy extra equipment for the students.

"In previous years we have raised in excess of £2,000 and this year we hope to do the same."
