WITH regard to the recent publicity on the state of the Blackburn Railway Station since its refurbishment and the criticisms being levelled at Railtrack.

It has to be said that there is a great deal of disappointment and anger that, after all the trumpet blowing and hype at the planning stage, the finished product is far from satisfactory.

The station refurbishment fitted nicely with the general strategy of the council's plans for central Blackburn and the projected new vision for the town's regeneration.

It was at this point that Blackburn Council gave Railtrack £315,000, with the proviso that the money would be spent on improving public access facilities and public safety in the station. This has not been done.

The station operator has said it has no plans to cover the uncovered platform, or sort out the problems in the grotty, leaking underpass.

Should not the council be demanding its money back?
