MORECAMBE and Lancaster City will both have an extra trophy to play for next season - the new Nationwide Conference League Cup.

The competition has been restored at the request of many of the 44 clubs in the new Conference North and South leagues, says Conference chief executive John Moules.

Formerly known as the Bob Lord Trophy, it was last played in 2001, when Chester City beat Kingstonian in the final.

Top-flight Conference clubs including Morecambe will only join the competition in the later rounds because of other commitments, says Mr Moules.

Meanwhile, 12 clubs -the top 10 from last season plus relegated League duo York and Carlisle - have been nominated to compete in the LDV Vans Trophy next season.

o The transfer of striker Sean O'Connor from Queen of the South to Morecambe has been confirmed.

The signing was announced last week subject to international clearance and a medical - both hurdles have now been successfully cleared.
