DETERMINED Burnley boss Steve Cotterill is finalising his backroom staff in preparation for the new season.

As I understand it, Cotterill has been working tirelessly in his efforts to recruit a new backroom team.

And the former Stoke City boss may even be in a position to unveil his new support staff later this week.

Several of the people he has targeted are due to return from holiday in the next few days and another is currently serving his notice with his present employers.

Cotterill is eager to get the new men in place as quickly as possible in what is phase one of his plan to transform Burnley's fortunes.

The new Clarets chief is also working hard on bringing in new players and we can reveal he spoke to a specific target at the weekend.

Transfer activity is expected to hot up at Turf Moor in the next few weeks as players start to return from holiday in preparation for the start of pre-season training.

June is a traditionally quiet month but Cotterill is expected to make his first wave of new signings in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, former Burnley boss Chris Waddle could be poised to return to management for the first time since he quit the Clarets six years ago.

Waddle has been tipped to succeed Russell Slade at Scarborough and the former England international has admitted to having talks with Seadogs chairman Malcolm Reynolds.

"I'm not able to commit to anything at the moment because of media work at Euro 2004.

"I've been doing a lot of media work but it's true to say I miss the day-to-day involvement at a club.

"I am good friends with Malcolm and we have spoken about the situation at Scarborough."
