A MAN who spent six months restoring a classic bike is to auction it off for charity.

Geoff Ashworth hopes his rare Suzuki 250 Mark Two High Piper, will raise around £10,000.

And Mr Ashworth, a partner in Ashworth and Baker Funeral Directors, who lives in Bury Road, Rawtenstall, wants the public to decide which charity should benefit.

He said: "The bike has been transformed from a box of parts to a beautiful machine and I hope it can bring further pleasure.

"I do not ride it and it is a shame that a bike like this is not being used."

The bike, which was built in 1970, is on display at the Rossendale Motor Show, Bury Road, Rawtenstall, and sealed bids will be accepted until July 31. Mr Ashworth will then pick the highest bid and the new owner will receive the Suzuki at presentation at the show.

Half the money raised is going to Rossendale Hospice and the other half to the cause that the public decide is most deserving.

Mr Ashworth added: "I want people to write saying where the money should go."

Letters should be sent to: Ashworth and baker Funeral Directors, Rosevale Chapel, 28 Bury Road, Rawtenstall, BB4 6AA. Bidding forms for the auction are available from Rossendale Motor Show or Fourways Motorcycles, Woodtop Garage, Bury Road.
