A BURNLEY headteacher today vowed not to let firebugs destroy her pupils' dream of setting up their own allotment at the school.

Vandals wrecked the plastic greenhouse at St Stephen's Primary School, Woodgrove Road, when they set fire to it over the weekend.

However, head June Littlemore said the school would go ahead with plans to establish its own green oasis despite the blow.

The greenhouse had been donated by horticultural charity Offshoots and the school, which has about 200 pupils, had been planning to plant seedlings in there.

Mrs Littlemore said they would now have to decide how to carry on. The vandal attack is the second on the same greenhouse in a matter of weeks.

Last month yobs slashed the plastic coating, but the greenhouse was left standing.

This time it has been destroyed.

Mrs Littlemore said: "The children designed the allotment garden and we were planning to have some seedlings in the greenhouse, but that obviously won't be possible now.

"Everyone at the school is really upset and the children were especially shocked. We are trying to improve the environment for them and something like this happens to thwart our plans.

"We won't give up, but we will have to decide the best way forward.

"If we just replace the greenhouse it may just get vandalised again."
