BUDDING Kylie Minogues and Will Youngs are being invited to audition for a special Stars in Their Eyes competition in Colne.

The contest is being organised by Burnley's Brunshaw Action Group for young people in Burnley and Pendle.

The Colne heat is being held at the North Valley Community Centre, in Birtwistle Avenue, Colne, on Saturday, at 1pm.

Pennine Police have backed the event, which will culminate in a grand final at Burnley Mechanics Theatre at the end of July, and have secured £5,000 from the Rank Charitable Foundation to help fund it.

Superintendent Steve Hartley from Pennine Police said: "A similar contest was run by Brunshaw Action Group last year and it proved to be a huge success.

"Thanks to the funding we've obtained from the Rank Foundation, this year's competition will be even bigger and better with young people from Pendle, as well as Burnley, taking part.

"From a policing point of view, we're delighted to be supporting the contest.

"It keeps the youths occupied and while they are rehearsing and competing, they are having fun in a safe environment which is in all our best interests." The Stars in their Eyes contest is open to youths aged nine upwards throughout Burnley and Pendle.

Heats have already been held in Burnley, Nelson, Brierfield and Padiham.

Michael Bailey from the Brunshaw Action Group said: "If you're a good singer and you fancy winning some fantastic prizes, then come along to our Colne heat."
