POLICE are appealing for video footage of a seaside motorbike tragedy in which a 16-year-old Blackburn schoolboy died.

The move came as the headteacher at Steven Anderton's school paid tribute to the teenager who "lived life to the full."

Officers hope video film shot by spectators at the seafront event, at Little Bispham near Blackpool, might show what happened when Steven appeared to lose control and crash into a wall on Sunday.

Steven, a Witton Park High School pupil, of Sandon Street, Blackburn, suffered fatal head injuries and multiple fractures at the end of a time trial organised by Fleetwood and District Motorcycle Club.

His father Trevor was among the crowd at the time of the accident.

Bikes as powerful as 1100ccs race against the clock at the annual event.

The Warwickshire-based Auto Cycle Union governs such events with a National Sporting Code and regulations.

Today, headteacher at Witton John Gosling said Steven, who was partially sighted, "lived life to the full." He said the school was devastated by the Year 11 pupil's death.

All through his school career, Steven has had a support assistant adapting worksheets to large type and he was expected to get good grades in his GCSEs.

Mr Gosling said: "We are all deeply saddened and shocked. Our thoughts are with his family. He was an easy-going, likeable boy with a lovely sense of humour.

"He was passionate about motorbikes. To ride a bike at 100mph when you are partially sighted is amazing - it sums up his attitude to not let anything stop him."

Det Insp Des Coop of Blackpool Police said: "The investigation is at a very early stage. We have are asking anyone who was using a video camera at Sunday's event to contact us 01253 604082."
