I FEEL a little sorry for Linda Sanderson, communications manager, Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety, Preston (Letters, June 9) as it would appear that she is not quite up to speed on the subject of speeding tickets being issued for driving under 35mph in a 30mph area.

I can assure her that I was fined £63 and had three points put on my licence for driving at 34mph. This happened in Nelson on Leeds Road in August 2002, I was a little annoyed at the time but accepted it, after all I was breaking the law and driving over 30mph.

It wasn't until I read Mr Barber's letter that alerted me to the fact that I may be able to be cleared of this offence. More importantly I wanted my licence cleared because I have had a clean driving licence for many, many years.

I also heard a similar comment from Superintendent Clive Tatern on Radio Lancashire last week. The Superintendent invited me to write to him with my details, which I have done and am awaiting a reply.

These people want to get their facts right before writing such rubbish, perhaps Ms Sanderson lives on a different planet than I do but I am getting a bit fed up of hearing people saying that no one has been prosecuted for driving under 35mph. They are wrong. I have.

CARL STREDDER, Mayville Road, Brierfield, Nelson.
