STEVE Cotterill is urging Burnley fans not to panic as he continues to close in on his transfer targets.

The new Clarets chief shares the frustrations of supporters eagerly awaiting a flood of new faces at Turf Moor.

Cotterill has already identified several players he is keen to sign as the first stage of his rebuilding plans.

However, with players still on their summer break - and many of those out of contract patiently sifting through all other offers on the table - the Burnley boss does not expect any arrivals this week.

He said: "It would be nice to have had a couple of players nailed down by now but there's not a lot happening.

"You are contacting players on holiday who are wanting to keep their options open, so I think it will be a lot busier once we get this week out of the way.

"Then, it's only a week before teams are back in, so once this week is out of the way things will start hotting up."

As is stands, Burnley will return for pre-season training in July with just eight professional players.

Brian Jensen, Graham Branch, Lee Roche, Mo Camara, Tony Grant, Richard Chaplow, Ian Moore and Robbie Blake make up the bones of a side that Cotterill is desperate to flesh out.

Cotterill has spoken to the four players released by the club at the end of last season, with no further developments involving David May, Paul Weller, Mark McGregor and Dean West.

And Cotterill has wasted little time hitting the ground running, adopting a relentless quest by clocking up the miles in a nationwide tour of available talent.

But the former Cheltenham and Stoke boss cannot wait to get down to the gritty slog of pre-season training in anticipation of his first season in charge of the Clarets.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to pre-season. I'd rather get on with the football than doing all the other business."
