A COMPUTERISED bicycle will test the mettle of would-be Lance Armstrongs in a cycling roadshow that is due to criss-cross Lancashire.

The Lancashire County Council roadshow will feature a bicycle linked electronically to a computer and screen, to make the "virtual" road rise or fall and make the would-be biker pedal harder.

County councillor Jean Yates, Lancashire County Council Cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "The roadshow will feature tips on safe riding, cycling for commuting and cycling for pleasure.

"The computerised cycle should be a laugh for everyone, but the serious message is that cycling can be fun and a great way of getting fit and getting about quickly and safely.

"Some of our cycling routes now record more than 1,000 cyclists a day."

The roadshow will also be found at Leyland Market, 10.30am to 4pm on June 22; Chorley Hospital, 11.30am to 2.30pm, June 28; Chorley centre (by covered market on Cleveland Street/ Fazakerly Street), 10.30am to 3.30pm, July 6; Rossendale Outdoor Festival, Marl Pits, 11am to 2pm, July 17; East Lancs Bike Fest, 11am to 4pm, July 24; Burnley Festival, 10.30am to 4.30pm, July 25; Royal Lancashire Show, 9.30am to 7pm, July 27-29; and Barnoldswick Balloon Festival, 10am to 2pm on September 4.
