THE national motorcycle governing body has launched its own investigation into the death of a Blackburn teenager at a seafront time trial.
The Auto Cycle Union will try to shed light on what happened when 16-year-old Steven Anderton crashed into a wall during a speed sprint near Blackpool.
Police are also considering whether the fact that Steven, of Sandon Street, was partially sighted might have contributed to his death as part of their own inquiry into the accident.
The Witton Park High School pupil suffered head injuries and multiple fractures in the accident as his father, Trevor, and hundreds of spectators looked on at Lower Walk, Little Bispham. He is too upset to talk publicly about his son's death.
Steven appeared to lose control of his bike before hitting a wall. Two stewards from Fleetwood and District Motorcycle Club, which organised the event, were injured.
DS Daryl Turner at Blackpool said: "We will be investigating the full circumstances and his sight will be something to consider."
A spokesperson for the ACU said: "We are conducting an investigation into the tragedy and we are working with all the appropriate authorities.
"The only comment we will make at this stage is to extend our sympathies to the family, friends and relatives of Steven and the two stewards who were injured."
