IAN Stott of the Blackburn and District CTC racing team scored his second win on Yorkshire roads in less than a week when he was fastest rider in the Condor Road Club 14 mile time trial on a demanding course in Halifax.

The Clayton le Moors rider clocked 38 min 19secs for the distance to add to his season tally which included his win of the previous week when he was the area's top man in a 25 mile event on flatter roads a few miles further east.

Equal second in the Halifax event with a time of 39min 12sec was Peter Greenwood of the Clayton Velo club, who revels in the hillier races despite being on the wrong side of 50.

He was a clear winner of the Veterans Road Race at Bolton by Bowland in the Ribble Valley, leaving his breakaway companions to cross the finishing line alone.

Carl Helliwell of Great Harwood (39m 24s) in fourth, Dave Metcalfe Barnoldswick (40m 15s) eighth of and Bill Belcher Rossendale (41m 17s) 11th completed a good return for East Lancashire riders at Halifax.

The event was a counter for the Lakes and Lancashire Sporting Courses series in which Helliwell is lying in fourth position, Stott fourth and Greenwood fifth with three events to go.

Adam Pinder, a younger team member of the Blackburn and District CTC at the age of 13, continues to impress in the sport with an excellent performance on the closed circuit of the Preston Sports Arena.

The Norden pupil, who lives in Great Harwood, was the undisputed winner of his age group in the North West District Championships when he covered the eight laps of the one mile circuit in 20min 23secs. Pinder will now represent the area in the National Championships in September over a 10 mile course in Yorkshire.

On-form Carl Pawson, of the Nelson Wheelers Cycling Club, was a narrow winner of the Pendle Forest mid-week time trial over a course of just short of 10 miles at Thornton-in-Craven.

His time of 23min 13secs was just seven seconds faster than up-and-coming juvenile rider Steven Burke of Colne. Another Wheelers member, Chris Smedley, took third in 24m 37sec, and Steve Singleton of the promoting club finished fourth with 24min 41sec.

At Edisford near Clitheroe Fraser Snape of Blackburn was back in the winning saddle with an unbeatable 23min 43sec for the 10 miles with Dave Hargreaves second (25m 17s), Nigel Waddington third (25m 43s) and Dave Clough fourth (25m 44s) with all four being members of the North Lancashire Road Club.

The Rossendale mid-week promotion over a 9.4 mile course based on the Accrington to Burnley road had their own member Paul Warrener of Waterfoot in top spot with a time of 22min 12sec ahead of come-back rider Simon Wilson of Burnley (22m 34s) , Joe Curran of the North Lancs RC (24m 30s) and another Rossendale rider Ken Garrett fourth in 27m 13s.
