And by then, Stanley boss John Coleman is confident of celebrating a triple swoop by snapping up Australian keeper Jason Petkovic.

Long time target Craney, 21, has signed a two-year deal - with a further one-year option should the move prove beneficial to both parties.

And Coleman was delighted to land his number one summer target after the deal appeared to be heading for a sorry stalemate.

He said: "I've wanted Ian for a long and the fact we have now signed him shows we are not prepared to give up on players we feel can improve the club.

"He is a very good footballer, he scores goals and he is very inventive around the box.

"That is something I feel we were maybe missing last season and that we need."

Former Preston scholar Carvill has agreed a 12-month deal with Stanley, again with the option of a further year.

The 19-year-old left winger, described as pacey, was one of a batch of youngsters released by the Lilywhites this summer, despite making several appearances for their reserve team last year.

Perth Glory goalkeeper Petkovic appears to be close to agreeing a deal with Stanley.

The 31-year-old Socceroo, who has 16 caps for his country, is desperate to pursue a career in England.

Coleman, who is still talking to current keeper Jon Kennedy over a new deal, said: "Hopefully we will have some positive news later today."
