HISTORIC buildings in Earby could become part of a designated conservation area under plans to go before councillors next week.

The West Craven Committee resolved to support the idea following an approach from Earby Parish Council in December 2002. And now the plans are set to be rubber-stamped by the council's executive on Thursday.

Meetings between various groups, including the local history society, established that a single conservation area covering the best parts of early and Victorian Earby was better than several smaller zones.

The draft boundaries were drawn up by the council's conservation and environmental improvements officer.

The proposed area would include three listed buildings - the Old Grammar School, Waddington Farm and White Lion.
