FAMILY doctors in Bury are putting quality before quantity.
New contracts for the borough's GPs means that they will now be paid for the standard of care they administer to their patients rather than how many patients they see.
Under the new working agreement family doctors will provide more medical services, such as being able to carry out minor surgery at the practice.
Mr Evan Boucher, chief executive of Bury Primary Care Trust, said: "The new GP contract is a breakthrough in the way GP services are delivered and it is good news for patients.
"The new approach challenges the traditional ways of administering primary care. The new system means that GPs will have to match up to the standards set for the effective delivery of care."
