IS there space among the grumbles and cross-party bickering on this page for a heartwarming tale?
I locked my keys and my 18-month-old grandson, Ollie, in my car on the B&Q car park at Bury Bridge.
It is often said that no-one ever stops to help any more -- don't believe a word of it. My heartfelt thanks go to the following people who all offered unstinting support, without so much as implying that so far as "Prat of the Year" goes, I was a strong contender.
First, Anthony, who abandoned his quest for a piece of wood, to drive round to the car dealers across the road -- who weren't very helpful by the way -- and telephoned the police. Then stayed until help arrived.
Second, two policewomen with a sense of humour arrived within minutes -- Lorraine and partner, you were stars.
Third, all the Ford owners on the car park who offered keys and friendly advice, especially the lady who came back to check we were OK and to offer Ollie a banana..
Fourth, the staff of Motor World and B&Q, who came out to try and help, assured me it had been known to happen before, and produced juice for Ollie on his release.
Thank you again everyone.
DAZED AND CONFUSED,
(but very grateful).
