A MAN who tried to headbutt a policeman during a domestic row was jailed for four months.
Lee Tiernan, 31, of Todmorden Road, Bacup, admitted affray. The case was previously adjourned for pre-sentence reports.
Peter Edmondson, prosecuting, told Rochdale magistrates that police were called to an incident at the address of Tiernan's ex-partner in Milnrow.
He said that such was the tension and aggression displayed at the scene officers had to call back-up. He said that despite efforts to calm him Tiernan continued to argue with his girlfriend, who was asked to leave the room.
At that point, Tiernan lunged and tried to headbutt one officer and then attempted to punch him.
The court was told it took four officers to restrain him before he was taken to the police station and detained overnight.
Tiernan was said to have a record that included public disorder and wounding, and had been in prison before.
Steve Connor, defending, said there had never been any realistic chance of Tiernan injuring anybody.
"The defendant has apologised for reacting badly on this occasion and he has expressed remorse," Mr Connor said.
