CLASSIC cars will be given an ideal platform this weekend to celebrate the centenary of the Rover marque -- courtesy of the East Lancashire Railway.

The Bolton Street station in Bury is the venue for this Sunday's (July 25) event which will feature more than 25 vehicles.

Various Rover-related clubs throughout the north west are involved in the show which will act as a magnet for classic car lovers.

Already booked in for the event are 19 Rovers, two MGs, a Landrover, a Morris 1000 and a Hillman.

Mr Geoff Taylor, one of the organisers, said: "The purpose of the show is to celebrate 100 years of the Rover marque.

"Access to the show, which is being held on the main car park at the side of the station, is free for members of the public."

People wishing to exhibit their cars on the day can turn up. There is a £5 entry fee which gives the entrant a rally plaque for attending, a voucher for discounted travel for two adults on the East Lancashire Railway, a self judging form to participate in judging the cars and the chance of winning a trophy.

The event will be open from 9am for exhibitors and from 10am for members of the public. Exhibitors are being asked to have their vehicles in place by 11am.

And it's likely the classic cars will be joined by some of their "big brothers".

Mr Taylor said: "I have been promised at least one, hopefully two, buses from the Manchester Museum of Transport to be on display in the car park."

Another highlight of the show will be a display of art -- made from car components.
