YOUNG firebugs are being blamed for targeting a disused outbuilding at Philips High School in Whitefield.

A quantity of rubbish within the boarded-up building was set on fire on Monday (July 19).

Two fire crews tackled the blaze in the timber-framed outbuilding at the Higher Lane school. The unit had formerly served as changing room facilities.

Officers were at the scene for around 40 minutes, and damage was confined to the rubbish inside the outbuilding.
