PAUL Gascoigne will definitely be in the Radcliffe Boro line-up for the friendly against a Manchester United XI.

The former England star will be flying in from Munich for the latest game in Boro's prestigious pre-season schedule.

Also in action on the day for Boro will be Manchester United and England legend Bryan Robson who is putting the Geordie up during his whistle-stop visit.

"It should be a superb occasion," said Glendon.

"It's not every day a manager at my level gets to coach a former England captain and a footballing genius, and I know all the lads are looking forward to playing alongside them.

"Gazza is known for his unpredictability as well as his skill, and I'm sure the crowd will not be disappointed."

Gascoigne (37) has recently been working as an Irish TV pundit covering Euro 2004 as well as promoting his autobiography "Gazza: My Story".

Glendon has been busy this week, signing forward Rory Patterson to a two-year deal.

The 20-year-old striker from Derry, in Northern Ireland, made 21 appearances for Rochdale last season and was voted Dale's Young Player Of the Year by the supporters, before surprisingly being released in the summer.

However, it now appears he won't be taking his interest in centre-back Simon Grand any further.

Glendon was impressed with the player's contribution against Bolton, but Grand rulled himself out of Wednesday night's 4-1 defeat against Stockport County.

"I think he's aiming higher than the Unibond," said Glendon.

"He didn't play against Stockport because he was meeting his agent, but if you ask me he can't be a good agent if he lets his client miss out on the opportunity to put himself in the shop window against a Coca Cola One team!"

However, when one door closes another opens, and Glendon hopes to play another former Rochdale player against United.

"I'm going to have a good look at Stephen Hill, who can play centre-back or left back," he said.

"He was one of the group of players that included Patterson and Grand that Rochdale let go, and I'm confident he could do a job for us. If I like what I see I'll sign him up, that will be us then for the start of the season."

On Wednesday night County boss Sammy McIlroy showed his respect for Boro by beginning the match with his first choice eleven. Indeed, he didn't change things around until his side had come from behind to build a 4-1 lead.

After a goalless first half, Boro took the lead through Simon Carden on 46 minutes.

But then County stepped up the pace and together with a little help scored four unopposed goals from new signing Warren Feeney, Rickie Lambert, Andy Welsh ansd Stuart Barlow.

"Although we got beat I was delighted with our performance," said Glendon.

"For the last 15 minutes we just ran out of legs, I only had one sub again and it was just too much for us. We made a couple of mistakes but they were just through sheer fatigue.

"We've hardly trained, we've had five sessions but we've not been able to do much because we've been keeping them for all these friendlies."

Tomorrow Glendon looks set to welcome back Karl Marginson, John Foster, Rory Patterson and Davey Luker.

Oh, and two fellas called Robson and Gascoigne, so don't miss it!
