A DRINK driver who got behind the wheel while banned had a two-year-old child in the car with him, a court was told.

Burnley Magistrates heard how alcoholic father-of-two Sean Lynch, 42, was almost three times the limit when stopped by police late at night.

The defendant, of Marine Avenue, Burnley, who committed the offence while on bail, was remanded in custody until August 6 for an all options open pre-sentence report. He admitted driving with excess alcohol and driving while disqualified.

Carl Gaffney, prosecuting, told the court when the defendant was breath tested he gave a reading of 91 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.

When he was arrested, he not only had another adult in the car with him, but a two-year-old child.

John Greenwood, defending, said Lynch had offended while on bail. He had an appalling record for such offences, but the last time he had been to prison was in 1997.

It would be a great shock to his system to go back to jail now and he did not want to. He had a lot to lose. Mr Greenwood added the defendant had only driven a short distance. He had an illness which required treatment and he had had counselling.
