THE former deputy leader of Hyndburn Council, who recently announced his retirement, will be replaced by two people.

Coun Jim Dickinson attended his last cabinet meeting in the post this week and will continue to represent Baxenden, but is taking a break from 'frontline' politics.

Now it has been revealed that the Conservative group will put two members forward to work together on filling his shoes.

Coun Brian Roberts, ward councillor for St Oswald's, and Coun Tony Dobson, for Barnfield, will be in the running for the dual post.

Coun Roberts will deputise in matters of community services and Coun Dobson in regeneration.

Coun Peter Britcliffe, leader of the council, said: "The Conservative group is full of talent and any number of people could have filled these roles. I'm very sad to lose Jim Dickinson as deputy but I very much look forward to working with councillors Dobson and Roberts as my new deputies."
