A CREDIT to his family and a credit to Clitheroe Golf Club was how club president Derek Wood introduced young William Tyrrell when presenting him with the Collier Shield and first prize in Clitheroe Golf Club's Open.

William, the younger brother of seven handicap Richard, triumphed over big brother and 90 other junior golfers from across the region with a nett 66 return.

Tom Stuart from Shaw Hill eased Jamie Calver from Preston Golf Club into third place on the cards. Shaw Hill's Sam Stuart took the best gross from Whalley Golf Club's Edward Foulds and the impressive Claire Starkie from across the border in Yorkshire returned a gross 75 to claim a prize.

Jack Rothwell and Andrew Mercer are reaping the benefits of their summer break and hours of practice to return 41 and 40 points respectively in the midweek junior stableford.

Four handicapper Miles Wade has continued to impress since he joined Clitheroe from Rossendale three years ago and he was rewarded with top spot in Division One of the weekend medal with a six under nett 65. Course chairman John Holt illustrated his sound course management with a 77-10-67 return to take second prize with Andrew Bennie and Bill Farnworth finishing the odd shot behind.

Division Two saw Dieno George put in the round of his life for a nett 65, four shots ahead of Peter Greaves with Ray Riley and Alex Rigby taking the minor prizes.

Andrew Walmsley's 73 earned him the gross prize.

Chris Heesom took the honours and top spot with a return of 76-11-65 in the club's midweek medal.

Chris had a four shot margin over Paul Hamer who eased Colin Akeroyd into third place after a card play-off.
