A HUGE range of sports and outdoor attractions awaits visitors to East Bury's annual summer Party in the Park on Sunday (Aug 8).

From noon until 4pm, the Green Flag-winning Openshaw Park in Rochdale Road will come alive with free family entertainment.

Activities include a street dancing demo and workshops, Tai Chi, rounders, Brazilian soccer skills, a penalty shoot-out, tug-o-war, family races, and a bouncy castle. There will also be ten-pin bowling, clown and face-painting, dog show, tombola, basketball, tennis, wheelchair football and a fencing display.

A marquee will host a range of exhibitors including Sure Start, the Job Centre, East Bury energy efficiency project, and the smoking cessation service, among others.

The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Barry Briggs, will formally open a new multi-use games area.

The event is funded by the East Bury Initiative (SRB5) and a Community Cohesion Grant from Bury Council.

Councillor Trevor Holt, chairman of Bury East area board, said: "This is an East Bury community event, organised by local people, for local people and we are looking forward to a fabulous day."
