FOR the second time in a week heavy rains have caused flash floods locally.

The small lodge fishery adjacent to Buckhurst School, above Longcroft, burst its banks causing considerable damage to farm roads next to it.

On Wednesday evening the Bury junior section fished the Gill Trophy on Island Lodge.

Skimmer bream featured in the leading weights.

Top weight fell to Ian Gough (4-4-8). In second place was Ashley Hill (2-1-0), third Danny Hamer (0-12-8) and fourth Mark Houghton (0-8-0).

There was an improved turnout for the Thursday evening target match held on Parkers.

Daz Shaw had top weight with 1760kg. In second place was John Fletcher (1350kg) and third, Paul White (1240kg).

On Sunday, Scapa Porritt AC fished the Tubman Trophy on Cliffe Reservoir at Stubbins.

The influx of cold water affected catches. Top weight went to Alan Waters (3-2-0), second was Geoff Palmer (0-5-0) and joint third Lawrance Whittles and R. Gordon (-0-3--0).

In the latest Hebden Bridge Open held on the Rochdale Canal at Moderna top weight fell to P. MacMillan (Team Wizzo) 18-4-0.

In second place was R. Winterbottom (Profish UK) 7-8-0 and third T. James (Tri-Cast Rochdale); fifth Steve Mellor (Fishermans Way) 3-7-0; sixth Daz Shaw (Fishermans Way) 2-7-0.

In the Pilsworth Fisheries Open held at Bottom Ponds top weight fell to Mark Addy (Drennan NW) 18-10-0.

Second was Granville Walkers (Fishermans Way) 18-5-0; third Jonathan Jowett (Drennan NW) 17-10-0 and fourth Bernard Taylor (Fishermans Way) 17-3-0.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the Stainforth & Keadby Canal at Thorne is the venue for the Third Division National Championship.

England finished fifth in the World Championship for Anglers with Disabilities.

Despite boasting two anglers with three points in their respective sections the BBD/NFA England team for Anglers with Disabilities finished fifth out of nine teams in the sixth World Championships fished on the River Sava, Slovenia last weekend.

Both Keith Williamson (Wirral) and Stefan Gent (Bury) gave England some hope on day two by returning three points.

BURY SENIOR SECTION

THE August Cup will be held on Island Lodge this Sunday (August 15). Draw 9am, fishing from 10am to 3pm.

The club's Cookes Senior Cup will be held on Foulridge Reservoir at Colne on Sunday, August 29.

Names are now being taken at Fishermans Way, peg fee £4.50 and an entry preference will be given to members.

The club have a committee meeting on Monday, August 16, 7.30pm at Elton Liberal Club.

Litter has become a huge problem at several waters during these school holidays especially Island Lodge, Square Lodge and Big Carcass.

BURY JUNIOR SECTION

THE sixth and final match in the six match summer series for the Frank Booth Trophy takes place on Island Lodge on Wednesday, August 18. Draw 6pm, fishing 6.30pm to 9pm.
