THIS excellent meeting at the Crossford Bridge track gave the younger members of Bury AC a taste of competitive athletics, and didn't they do well.

UNDER-9 BOYS: There were five club members in the age group, in which the athletes were allowed to compete in a maximum of three events only.

Joe Higginson did his three events and came away with the grand haul of two wins and one second place.

He won the 50m sprint, in 8.66 seconds, the 75m sprint in 12.74 seconds, and finally threw the cricket ball 20.60m for second place.

Bryan Davies almost did as well, winning the 600m race in a time of 2.15.1, and coming in behind Joe in the 75m sprint, 13.13 seconds.

His final event was the throwing of the cricket ball, which was measured at 13.90m.

Joe Heyworth was timed at 9.38 for his 50m sprint, 2.192 in his 600m and his throw of 19.85m earned him the third place in the cricket ball competition.

Mark Duffy sprinted to third place in the 50m in 9.22 seconds, did 13.61 seconds for the 75m and then completed his 600m in 2.27.5.

The final club member Matthew Wild clocked 13.52 in the 75m, good enough for third place. In the 600m he did 2.29.9 before throwing the cricket ball 16.10m.

UNDER-9 GIRLS: Marina Hodson won the cricket ball competition with a 13.30m throw, clocked 9.75 in the 50m sprint and was timed at 2.25 in her 600m race.

Megan Davies opted for a 75m run, timed at 13.59. She also ran the 600m in 2.23.7 but achieved her best result in the cricket ball throwing where she was third with a distance of 10.90m.

Moira Davies ran the 50m sprint in 10.46, for the 75m sprint she was timed at 15.16 and for the long jump she got a distance of 2.14m.

The final club member was Anna Collins who just did the 50m in 9.59 secs followed by a long jump clearance of 2.10m.

UNDER-11 BOYS: Mark Campbell was the star in this age group.

He won the long jump in 3.72m and was second in both the 200m (32.15) and 800m (2.44.5).

Bradley Sullivan was second with a throw of 29.65m in the cricket ball competition, was timed at 17.74 for the 100m and cleared a distance of 3.15m in the long jump.

Matthew Boyle also came second in the 100m (15.33), did the 200m in (33.33), and an 800m in 3.01.9.

Michael Byrne was our only other boy in the cricket ball throwing competition where he threw 29.65m.

In addition Michael did both sprints, 16.58 for the 100m, 34.37 in the 200m. Curtis Richards did well for third place in the 200m (32.66) as well as 15.55 in the 100m and 2.69m in the long jump.

Jack Nolan ran the sprint double - 15.83 in the 100m, 32.81 in the 200m and competed his three events with a long jump of 3.24m.

Luke Heyworth completed the clubs competitors with a 15.96 100m. a 800m in 3.04.05 and a long jump of 3.26m.

UNDER-11 GIRLS: Laura Blundell was the club's only winner in this age group with a wonderful throw of the cricket ball of 23.60m.

The club also had Caitlin Cole in third place with a throw of 17.70m. Laura went on to complete her 200m in 38.63 and completed the long jump in 2.39m.

Caitlin stuck to running for her other two events, completing her 200m in 40.03 and the 800m in 3.07.7.

Evie McDermott ran her 100m in 19.06 then, with much support from dad Kevin, she clocked 3.31.0 in the 800m and then a very stylish long jump of 2.39m.

The other four members all competed in the 100m, Eleanor Kelly clocked 16.16, Tess Richardson 16.02, Hannah Simons 18.46 and Katie Gorner 17.92.

Three of these then opted for the long jump, and Eleanor jumped 3.20m, Tess 3.16m, and Hannah 2.80m.

UNDER-13 BOYS: Mark Kelly got two third places, with a high jump of 1.10m and a long jump of 4.35m, following on from his 100m time of 14.77.

Nicholas Barker also ran the 100m, in 17.09 then did an 800m in 3.00.1 and a shot throw of 3.61m. Chris Duffy competed in the 100m in 17.06, and the 800m in a time of 3.26.8.

UNDER-13 GIRLS: Francesca Sullivan did well for second place in the shot with a distance of 5.79m. Georgia Nolan ran the 100m in 15.92, and the 200m in 33.44.

Also running the sprint double was Kayleigh Byrne, second in the 100m in 14.08 and third in the 200m with 30.69.

Kayleigh then went on to finish second in the high jump with a height of 1.15m.

Nicola Quick clocked 15.92 for her 100m, 2.31.6 in her 800m, and a long jump of 3.26m.

Andrea Baker ran her 200m in 2.53.1, her 800m in 2.53.1, and recorded a height of 1.95m in the high jump.
