THE grouse-shooting season began yesterday, and we have found that extremists involved in hunt sabotage are already recruiting shooting saboteurs via their website.
This tallies with an increase in animal rights activity around shooting in recent years.
In response to this increased activity the Countryside Alliance has launched a new national hotline (0845 225 0486) and advice card to provide 24-hour advice on how best to respond to any incidents and liaise with the police.
It is sad that this hotline is necessary but it would be nave to ignore the threat. The hotline will give vital back-up should the worst happen and is a good way of monitoring animal rights activity at national level.
