HOW reassuring to the ratepaying public of Lancashire that we now have more faceless, helmet wearing mobile speed camera technicians (LET, August 9) to make us feel safe and earn further revenue via the fixed penalties and court summons they will churn out to the speeders around our county - or should that be the honest motorists among us who abide by the law and actually register our vehicles correctly?
Don't get me wrong, there is a time and place for everything and speeding motorists need to be dealt with firmly, if the speeding takes place in the wrong location at the wrong time.
However, instead of employing civilians to ride £10,000 motorcycles (which I presume will be easier to park on pavements than the Ford Galaxys), I would prefer the sight of more traffic bobbies, sorry 'road policing officers', to actually stop and check and speak to drivers.
Perhaps then we can prosecute the many hundreds of people driving on our roads without licence, insurance and while drunk or disqualified, or would that be a step backwards in the eyes of our police chiefs?
JAMES PATERSON, Darwen.
