SETTLE will be out to try and secure a first ever league and cup double when they take on Great Harwood in the final of the Castlemaine XXXX Ramsbottom Cup at their Marshfield ground tomorrow.

Read started the season as red-hot favourites to repeat the double triumph they enjoyed last season.

But Settle refused to give up the chase in the league and after taking over top spot last weekend get the chance on Sunday to relieve Read of the first of their trophies.

"We are very determined, which shows in the totals we have been getting," said captain Andrew Davidson.

"The pro has been batting like a dream. He's been pulling it together and everyone has been batting around him.

"We have been setting big totals, fielding like our life depends on it and bowling tight. And if you do that you win most of your games."

Having lost just one in the league, Settle did taste defeat last Sunday when they were narrowly beaten in a rain affected Lancashire Cup semi-final by Bolton League side West Houghton after their total of 255 was reduced under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

A crowd of 500 filled Settle's ground to watch and Davidson hopes they won't go home disappointed next time.

"The ground was packed and everyone enjoyed it," he added.

"I want us to do the same again and perform the same way.

"But we have got to have something to show for all our efforts. This is probably one of the best seasons we've had and if we came away with nothing a lot of people would be disappointed."

A first cup success since 1970 won't be easy to achieve given Harwood's current form.

Russell Whalley's men reached the final by beating Read in the last four and also toppled the league champions last weekend.

However, Settle - beaten finalists two years ago - comfortably won the recent league meeting between the two sides.

And Davidson is confident of a repeat if his bowling attack, in which himself and Stuart Horbny will have key roles, can tame big-hitting Whalley and free-scoring Harwood professional Andrew Crook.

He said: "They can either get a big score or very little, and they rely on two guys to do it.

"We know we have to get them out and I think we have the bowlers to do it.

"But it's about on the day and who bowls the tightest and bats and fields the best."
