A MAN found dead in his bath by his daughter died of a heart attack, an inquest heard.

Concerns were raised when a note and some empty aspirin bottles were found at the home of 66-year-old Harry Rishton, in Burnley Road East, Waterfoot.

The former pub landlord had rung his daughter, Helen Tracy, the night before to say that he was feeling "confused".

She told the court that her dad loved to bet on the horses, but when she went round after his phone call he was sitting with his betting slips and said he could not remember how to do it.

Mrs Tracy asked him to stay at her house but he refused. The next morning she found him dead in the bath.

Police called to the scene found a note on his bed and some empty aspirin bottles.

But a post mortem examination revealed that he had severe heart disease and had died of a heart attack.

East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor said Mr Rishton may have thought about taking his own life, but the heart attack had "overtaken him" and he had died of natural causes.
